Fastener Testing

Oftentimes the success of a project or product can hinge on a fastener. By identifying potential problems early, MVMTC can help you earn needed approvals, reduce operating and replacement costs, and ensure greater operating safety and overall quality. Our testing laboratory is fully equipped and dedicated to precision fastener testing to meet your requirements.

MVMTC tests fasteners using the following methods:

Hydrogen embrittlement testing

HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT TESTING

Hydrogen embrittlement is a major concern in the choice of fastener coatings. It can be a serious issue with high-strength fasteners made of carbon and alloy steels, which can absorb the hydrogen into the fastener's surface during plating. In order to ensure greater operating safety and quality, MVMTC is able to test fasteners to meet your hydrogen embrittlement specifications.

TEST METHODS: SAE/USCAR-7 | SAE J78, J81, J1237 | GM512M | GM6010M
GM6171M | GMW4205 | GMW15170 |
ASTM F606/F606M | ASTM F835 |
ASTM F912 | ASTM A574

Fastener proof load testing

FASTENER PROOF LOAD TESTING

Fastener testing allows you to determine the mechanical properties of threaded fasteners, washers and rivets. A fastener proof load test consists of stressing the sample with a specified load based on size and grade. The product must withstand this amount of force without permanent deformation. The length of the part is measured before and after the test to ensure compliance.

TEST METHODS: ASTM F606/F606M | SAEJ195

Fastener torque and CoF testing

TORQUE | TENSION | COEFFICIENT OF FRICTION TESTING

The application of a plating or coating to a threaded fastener can greatly affect the state of friction in the joint and we are here to ensure fastener quality and safety. Using our 3200 LabMaster Professional friction tester, we test the consistency of friction throughout the fastener. To do so the fastener is properly prepared and mounted in our friction tester, where we measure the static and kinetic friction produced within the fastener joint.

Our friction tester gives us the capability to evaluate fasteners for a variety of test specifications such as:

  • Torque-tension Testing

  • Prevailing Torque Testing

  • Coefficient of Friction

  • Yield Determination

  • Angular Ductility/Rotational Capacity Testing

TORQUE | TENSION | COEFFICIENT OF FRICTION TEST METHODS: ISO 16047 | GMW3044 | GMW16819 | Ford WZ100 | Ford WZ101 | ASTM F606/F606M

PREVAILING TORQUE TEST METHODS: ASME B18.16.6, B18.16.6M | IFI 124 | IFI 125 | IFI 524 | IFI 52 | Ford ES-21006-S100 | WSD-M21P27-A4 | GM6175M | GM6194M | GM6189P | GMW14657
