metallurgical testing

When working with metals, metallurgical testing helps to detect material flaws, determine microstructural features, evaluate heat treatments and assure compliance to required specifications. MVMTC offers a variety of metallurgical analysis procedures such as micro hardness, microstructure analysis, grain size and more.

Microhardness testing and analysis

MICROHARDNESS TESTING

As a part of our metallurgical lab, Miami Valley Materials Testing Center offers comprehensive micro hardness testing to aid you in determining a material's resistance to penetration. Our experienced engineers perform Vickers and Knoop microhardness testing to measure surface and/or core hardness, case depth, coating hardness, and more. Microhardness testing is performed on very small or thin test samples. All specimens are prepared in-house and are examined by our highly qualified staff.

TEST METHODS: ASTM E384 | ASTM E1077 | SAE J423 | ASTM F2328 | ASTM F835 | ISO 898-1 | SAE J419

MICROSTRUCTURE ANALYSIS

Microstructure analysis studies the material samples under magnification to evaluate characteristics such as grain size, plating thickness, surface contamination and more. These properties help to determine how the material will perform under a given application. MVMTC’s qualified engineers can examine your samples and get you the information that you need to ensure product quality.
